Poprad-Tatry Airport transfers to Štrbské Pleso and the Tatra resorts
Poprad-Tatry is the airport closest to the mountains. Here is how group and charter transfers to Štrbské Pleso, Starý Smokovec and Tatranská Lomnica work.

Few airports sit as close to a mountain range as Poprad-Tatry (TAT). From the runway you can see the peaks of the High Tatras, and the main resorts are a short drive away. A Poprad-Tatry Airport transfer to Štrbské Pleso covers just 23 km, which takes a coach about 25 minutes. For groups and charter arrivals this makes the airport a very convenient way into the mountains, as long as the transport on the ground is organised in advance.
A small airport with a big advantage
Poprad-Tatry is a small regional airport with only a few scheduled flights. Much of its traffic comes from charter flights, sports teams, incentive groups and private aircraft. That has two practical consequences:
- there is limited public transport tailored to flight arrivals, so groups need their own transfer,
- arrivals tend to be concentrated: one charter flight can bring a hundred or more passengers at once, all heading to different hotels.
A private coach waiting outside the small terminal solves both. Because our depot is in Poprad, there is no long positioning run before the pick-up, which keeps the price of these short transfers reasonable.

Štrbské Pleso lies at the western end of the High Tatras, beside its famous glacial lake, with hotels, ski slopes and walking trails right in the village. Starý Smokovec is the centre of the resort strip, with the funicular up to Hrebienok. Tatranská Lomnica is further east and is the starting point of the cable car towards Lomnický štít. All three are reached by the road that runs along the foot of the mountains, and the calculator shows the route, the distance and the travel time to each hotel address.
Charter and group arrivals
When a whole plane of guests lands at once, coordination matters more than distance.
- Send the passenger count and hotel list early. We then plan how many coaches are needed and in what order the hotels are served. Each coach takes up to 53 passengers.
- Group hotels by area. One coach for Štrbské Pleso and another for the Smokovec and Tatranská Lomnica area is usually quicker than a single coach zigzagging between resorts.
- Plan for luggage. Ski groups and sports teams bring a lot of kit. Each suitcase may weigh up to 30 kg, and skis, bikes and equipment bags all go in the hold, provided we know about them.
- Agree the return in the same request. Departure day is often the same weekday a week later, and booking both legs at once makes the timing easy to coordinate.
Delays and changed flight times
Smaller airports can be affected by weather in the mountains, and charter times sometimes change at short notice. Include the flight number in your request, keep the dispatcher's number (+421 905 645 354) with the group leader, and let us know straight away if anything changes. Because the coach comes from Poprad, adjusting the pick-up time is usually simple.
Beyond the airport transfer
Many groups who land in Poprad also need transport during their stay: a day trip to the Spiš region, an evening in AquaCity Poprad or a run to the ski slopes at Jasná (see the Poprad to Jasná route). Our 3-day High Tatras itinerary shows how this fits together. If your flight goes to a bigger airport instead, see the guides to Krakow Airport, Vienna and Budapest.
