A group ski trip to Slovakia by coach combines short transfers, reliable ski storage and the freedom to choose a different resort each day. The main ski areas of the High and Low Tatras lie within a short drive of Poprad, which makes a single coach based near your hotel a practical way to move a school, club or company group between the airport, the accommodation and the slopes.

The main resorts for groups

Jasná

Jasná, on the slopes of Chopok in the Low Tatras, is the largest ski resort in Slovakia. Its size and range of runs suit groups with mixed abilities, from beginners to experienced skiers. From Poprad it is 71 km, about 1 h 10 min by coach (see the Poprad to Jasná route).

Štrbské Pleso

Štrbské Pleso sits at the western end of the High Tatras, around its glacial lake. The ski area is right by the village, so it is an easy option for ski courses and for groups staying in the resort itself. From Poprad-Tatry Airport it is 23 km, about 25 minutes.

Tatranská Lomnica

Tatranská Lomnica lies further east, below the Lomnický štít cable car. It offers skiing with a real high-mountain feel and is close to the hotels of the Smokovec area, which makes it a natural choice for a day on the slopes during a longer stay.

Getting there

Most international ski groups fly in and transfer by road:

RouteDistanceCoach time
Krakow Airport to Poprad161 kmabout 2 h 50 min
Katowice Airport to Štrbské Pleso259 kmabout 4 h
Vienna Airport to Poprad390 kmabout 5 h 35 min
Budapest Airport to Poprad382 kmabout 5 h 20 min

For the details of each gateway, see our guides to Krakow Airport and Poprad-Tatry Airport transfers. Groups travelling all the way from home by coach should read about EU coach driver hours, because long journeys may need two drivers or an overnight stop.

Skis, boots and luggage

Ski kit takes up far more space than people expect, so give us honest numbers when you book.

  • Skis and snowboards travel in bags in the large luggage hold, alongside suitcases.
  • Boots and helmets are best packed in boot bags so they do not take up seats or the aisle.
  • Suitcases may weigh up to 30 kg per piece.
  • Hired equipment can be collected on the way if you tell us in advance, so it becomes part of the plan rather than an unexpected stop.

Winter driving

Mountain roads in winter call for experience and patience. Our drivers know the roads around Poprad, the High Tatras and the Low Tatras in every season. In practice, winter driving means:

  1. allowing extra time in the morning, when snow or ice can slow the roads,
  2. agreeing pick-up points that a full-size coach can safely reach, which may be a main road rather than the door of a small guesthouse,
  3. keeping the plan flexible, for example switching resorts when weather or conditions make one location a better choice for the day.

Daily resort shuttles

Many groups keep the coach for the whole week. Each morning it takes the group from the hotel to the chosen resort and collects everyone in the afternoon. This works well for:

  • school ski courses, where the timetable and safety of the group are the priority,
  • ski clubs, which want to try Jasná one day and the High Tatras the next,
  • corporate ski trips, which often add an evening programme, a dinner or a visit to AquaCity Poprad.

Daily shuttles are priced by the kilometres driven and the driver's time, including waiting between the morning drop-off and the afternoon pick-up. EU rules on driving time and daily rest apply all week, so the plan has to leave the driver enough rest overnight.
