Zakopane, the best-known mountain town on the Polish side of the Tatras, is one of the most popular day trips for groups staying around Poprad. The two towns lie on opposite sides of the same mountain range, about 68 km apart by road, and the coach covers the distance in about 1 h 30 min. The drive itself is part of the experience.

Around the eastern end of the Tatras

From Poprad the road heads towards Tatranská Lomnica and then swings round the eastern end of the High Tatras through the Belianske Tatry area. On the way you pass Belianska jaskyňa, a show cave open to visitors, and Bachledova dolina with its treetop walk, both of which can be combined with Zakopane on the same day. The road then crosses into Poland. Since both countries are in Schengen there is no routine check, but every passenger, children included, needs an ID card or passport. Polish and Slovak tolls are covered by the coach.

Planning a day trip

With about 1 h 30 min each way, a group can leave after breakfast, spend most of the day in Zakopane and be back in time for dinner. One driver handles the whole day. If you want to fit in more, popular combinations are Zakopane with the treetop walk, or with Dunajec rafting in the Pieniny, which is a separate stop on the Polish-Slovak border. Tell us the plan and we will check that the timings work.

This trip is booked by school groups, holiday groups based in the Tatras, company teams on away days and clubs looking for a change of scenery.
